A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to public safety.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Section 26-14.6, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (g) to read as follows:

"(g) Effective January 1, 1993, the functions and authority heretofore exercised by the attorney general and the department of the attorney general relating to the executive security officers shall be transferred to the department of public safety[.]; provided that the services rendered by executive security officers shall be for the protection and security of the governor and lieutenant governor. Protection:

(1) Shall also be rendered for any elected public official; and

(2) May be rendered for any immediate family member of:

(A) The governor;

(B) The lieutenant governor; or

(C) An elected public official

that the director of public safety deems in need of protection from imminent danger or threats of imminent danger."

SECTION 2. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
