THE SENATE

S.B. NO.

2199

TWENTY-SECOND LEGISLATURE, 2004

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

relating to education.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that, given the large military presence in the State of Hawaii and substantial contingent of military dependents in the public schools, it is appropriate to create a permanent position within the department of education that will function as a liaison with the military community. This position would serve as the department's primary facilitator of such preexisting initiatives as the joint venture education forum.

The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funding to hire a permanent military liaison position in the department of education.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $          , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2004-2005, for a permanent military liaison position in the department of education.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2004.
