A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO THE HAWAII CIVIL RIGHTS COMMISSION.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Section 368-2, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (a) to read as follows:

"(a) There is established a civil rights commission composed of five members nominated and, by and with the advice and consent of the senate, appointed by the governor for staggered terms in accordance with section 26-34. [The] Three members appointed to the commission shall be selected on the basis of their knowledge and experience in civil rights matters and on the basis of a demonstrated commitment to the preservation of the civil rights of all individuals. Two members shall be from the business community who have demonstrated a sensitivity to civil rights issues. The governor shall designate one of the commissioners as the chair of the commission."

SECTION 2. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect 6/30/03.
