A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to alternative education.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds and declares that the appropriation of moneys under this Act for a grant-in-aid to Hui Malama Learning Center, for alternative education programs, is in the public interest and for the public health, safety, and general welfare.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2004-2005, for a grant-in-aid to Hui Malama Learning Center for alternative education programs, including: "GED (general equivalency diploma) Foundations"; academic tutorials provided under Act 90, Session Laws of Hawaii 1996; and home schooling enrichment.

SECTION 3. The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2004.
