HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

HONORING AND CONGRATULATING ANDY POEPOE, RECIPIENT OF THE 2004 NATIVE HAWAIIAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE's `O`O AWARD.

 

WHEREAS, Andy Poepoe is a native Hawaiian whose family roots can be traced to an ancestry that holds prominence in the history of the Hawaiian Islands; and

WHEREAS, his distinguished lineage includes his father, Abraham, who served as a minister in Honoka'a and Waimea and his grandfather, who was the Kahu of Kaumakapili Church for 49 years; and

WHEREAS, Andy Poepoe and his wife, Jaya, are the proud parents of two sons: Stephen and Allen; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from the Kamehameha Schools, Yale University, and the University of Hawaii, Andy Poepoe worked as both a paniolo and efficiency engineer on the Island of Hawaii; and

WHEREAS, in 1962, he was employed as an executive for the Dole Packaged Foods Company, where his diligence, work ethic, and forward thinking earned him accolades with the company, eventually being promoted to Manager of Commercial Operations, and then as Vice-President of Dole's Hawaiian Plantation Company; and

WHEREAS, with more than 25 years of service with Dole, Andy Poepoe was at the forefront in developing new, innovative, and successful strategies to formulate business relationships with companies throughout Asia and the Pacific; and

WHEREAS, additionally, Andy Poepoe's achievements include 40 years of public service, representing the people of Hawaii as both a State Legislator and City Councilmember; currently, he serves as District Director of the United States Small Business Administration's Honolulu Office; and

WHEREAS, for his lifelong dedication, hard work, foresight, and achievements, Andy Poepoe is the 2004 recipient of the prestigious Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce's `O`O Award; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2004, that this body hereby commends and congratulates Andy Poepoe, recipient of the prestigious Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce's `O`O Award, and extends to him its warmest aloha and best wishes in all future endeavors.
