HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

RECOGNIZING MOMILANI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, ROYAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, and LIHOLIHO ELEMENTARY school AS HAWAII'S 2003 BLUE RIBBON SCHOOLS.

 

WHEREAS, the United States Department of Education honors the nation's most successful schools for excellence in teaching and instruction, student achievement, leadership, and parental involvement by awarding them recognition as Blue Ribbon Schools; and

WHEREAS, the No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon Schools Program is a national recognition program sponsored by the United States Department of Education that honors public and private K-12 schools that demonstrate excellence with challenging academic standards and a rigorous curriculum for all students; a disciplined, supportive, safe, and drug-free environment; participatory leadership and a strong partnership among the family, school, and community; excellent teaching in a school environment that strengthens teacher skills; and low dropout rates and documented student achievement; and

WHEREAS, three outstanding Hawaii schools, MOMILANI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, ROYAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, and LIHOLIHO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL have been honored as Hawaii's 2003 Blue Ribbon Schools for their superior efforts in the educational development of their students, and have met the high standards and accountability measures under the No Child Left Behind Act, enabling them to represent Hawaii in the national "No Child Left Behind – Blue Ribbon Schools Program"; and

WHEREAS, at MOMILANI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL in Pearl City, teachers display a strong commitment to educational excellence and uphold the philosophy that all children can learn by striving to improve instructional strategies and curriculum to challenge every student; and

WHEREAS, as the oldest school on Oahu in downtown Honolulu, ROYAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL makes maximizing learning for each child its priority as it provides quality instruction and guidance in a safe, caring environment, and helps youth to seek and strive for intellectual growth and physical development, to respect themselves and others, and to become life-long learners; and

WHEREAS, LIHOLIHO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL in Kaimuki believes that all students can learn and is committed to providing opportunities that encourage students to become responsible and productive citizens who respect and value themselves and others; and

WHEREAS, MOMILANI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, ROYAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, and LIHOLIHO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL rely on partnerships with parents, teachers, businesses, social agencies, and communities to raise the learning standards of their students, a key ingredient of academic excellence; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2004, that this body hereby recognizes and congratulates MOMILANI ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, ROYAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, and LIHOLIHO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL for their exemplary initiatives and successes and for being named the 2003 Hawaii Blue Ribbon Schools, enabling them to represent Hawaii in the national "No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon Schools Program," and extends to all of their students, parents, faculty, and administrators, its warmest aloha and best wishes for continued success.
