RESOLUTION
requesting the department of land and natural resources to identify ten areas or issues that are of current and urgent concern regarding the forests of the state.
WHEREAS, the State's forests hold intangible values such as biodiversity, beauty, cultural significance, and ecotourism potential; and
WHEREAS, today, alien plants, timber, erosion, and over-development threaten the health and vitality of these forests; and
WHEREAS, as these threats change, the priorities for these forests must also change; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Land and Natural Resources and other government agencies, conservation groups, and individuals can together put forth a variety of perspectives and assessments of these forests; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2004, the Senate concurring, that the Chairperson of the Board of Land and Natural Resources is requested to direct the Administrator of the Forestry and Wildlife Division of the Department of Land and Natural Resources to annually survey the Department of Land and Natural Resources, as well as other interested government agencies, conservation groups, and individuals to identify ten areas or issues that are of current and urgent concern regarding the forests of the State; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Environmental Council is requested to publish these areas or issues in its annual report; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Administrator of Forestry and Wildlife Division; the Chairperson of the Board of Land and Natural Resources; the Environmental Council; other interested government agencies; conservation groups; and interested individuals.
