HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

urging the hawaii tourism authority to participate in the 2005 world exposition, aichi, japan.

 

 

WHEREAS, the State has participated in all of the major world expositions held in Japan, such as Expo '70, Fukuoka World Exposition, and the Osaka World Flower Exposition; and

WHEREAS, the upcoming 2005 World Exposition, Aichi, Japan, will be held in the Nagoya area from March 25 to September 25, 2005, with the theme of "Nature's Wisdom"; and

WHEREAS, the Aichi region and surrounding prefectures comprise about twelve per cent of the total overseas travel by Japanese; and

WHEREAS, 1,323,820 Japanese visitors came to Hawaii in 2003; and

WHEREAS, Japanese visitors spend nearly $2,000,000,000 in Hawaii and comprise about twenty-one per cent of all visitors to Hawaii; and

WHEREAS, Japanese tourism is an important and valued component of the Hawaii visitor industry; and

WHEREAS, about fifteen million visitors will attend the 2005 World Exposition, and participation in the Exposition presents an important opportunity to promote increased Japanese travel to Hawaii; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2004, the Senate concurring, that the Hawaii Tourism Authority is requested to participate in the 2005 World Exposition in Aichi, Japan, with a promotional exhibit on tourism; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hawaii Tourism Authority, the Executive Director of Hawaii Tourism Japan, the Governor, the Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism, the Mayors of the respective counties, the Consul General of Japan in Hawaii, and the agents for All Nippon Airways, JTB Hawaii, and JAL Hawaii.
