A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE WAIANAE COAST COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH CENTER.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center serves a population of forty thousand people, with the nearest emergency room being twenty miles away at Saint Francis-West. The legislature further finds that the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center has only one ambulance and a twenty-four-hour emergency room. Emergency services at the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center have received legislative appropriations since 1976. The legislature further finds that the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center emergency room may be closed unless legislative support is received.

The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds for emergency services at the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $        , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2003-2004, for emergency services at the Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of health for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2003.
