A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to hepatitis b immunization.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 304, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§304-    Immunization upon first-time enrollment; hepatitis B immunization; grace period. (a) Beginning on January 1, 2004, no prospective entering student who is under eighteen years of age shall enroll in any school within the University of Hawaii system unless the student presents, to the appropriate University of Hawaii official, documentation satisfactory to the University of Hawaii that the student has received full immunization against the hepatitis B virus.

(b) A prospective entering student who is under eighteen years of age who has not been fully immunized against the hepatitis B virus, as required under subsection (a), may be admitted to attend any school in the University of Hawaii system; provided that the student provides satisfactory documented proof of full immunization against the hepatitis B virus within         days of first being admitted."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
