A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to waste management.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 342G, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§342G- Recycling sort stations; installation; audit. The department shall install recycling sort stations throughout the State for the purpose of separating out recyclable waste from nonrecyclable waste from all solid waste prior to landfill disposal and further dividing the recyclable products by recyclable material types. The director shall adopt rules pursuant to chapter 91 to effectuate the purpose of this section. The department shall determine the number, siting, procedures, and mechanics of recycling sort stations. The department shall complete the transition to fully installing and operating all recycling sort stations by May 1, 2009. The auditor shall report the progress of the recycling sort stations to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the regular session of 2007."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
