A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO WORKERS' COMPENSATION.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that there is a need to upgrade the computer systems and software utilized by the disability compensation division of the department of labor and industrial relations to enhance the efficiency of processing workers' compensation claims and to ensure that injured employees will receive their compensation on a timely basis.

The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds for the purchase and installation of computers and software for the disability compensation division of the department of labor and industrial relations.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2004-2005 to facilitate the processing of workers’ compensation claims in the State; provided that the sum shall be used for the purchase and installation of computers and software for the disability compensation division.

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of labor and industrial relations for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2004.
