A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to campaign solicitations in state offices or buildings.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 84, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§84- Campaign solicitations in state offices or buildings. No person, including state officials, state legislators, and state employees, campaign organizations, group of persons acting in concert, for-profit corporation, not-for-profit corporation, organization or entity, in any room or building occupied in the discharge of official duties by any state public officer or employee shall solicit in any manner whatever or send, mail, or otherwise deliver any solicitation for any contribution of money or other things of value, including complimentary fundraiser tickets and similar invitations, for any political purpose whatever. Any person who knowingly violates this section shall be fined not more than $500 by the state ethics commission."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon approval.
