HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

H.B. NO.

1958

TWENTY-SECOND LEGISLATURE, 2004

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

RELATING TO EDUCATION.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that of the eleven community schools for adults established in the state, the Maui, Kauai, and Kona Community Schools were the last three to be established. Each of the first eight sites were provided full time principal, vice-principal, and registrar positions. At the time the Maui, Kauai, and Kona Community Schools for Adults were created, popular thought was that these three smaller schools would not require a registrar position. Subsequent increases in enrollment and additional duties placed upon these three schools now necessitate the need for a permanent full time registrar position to be established at each school. The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds to establish a permanent full time registrar position at each of the three schools.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $205,200, or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2004-2005, for salaries and operational expenses for one full time registrar position at the Maui, Kauai, and Kona Community School for Adults.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2004.
