A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to student transportation.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§302A-   Special school pass program. There is established in the department of education a special school pass program to provide transportation services for students to attend non-school hour programs. The department of education may contract to provide transportation. The department shall also establish and administer a special school pass to provide students with special school passes to access transportation to attend non-school hour programs."

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $          , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2004-2005, to provide activity transportation services for public school students to attend non-school hour programs.

SECTION 3. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $          , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2004-2005, for special school passes.

SECTION 4. The sums appropriated in sections 2 and 3 of this Act shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 5. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 6. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2004.
