A BILL FOR AN ACT
MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR TEXTBOOKS FOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ , or so much thereof as may be necessary, for fiscal year 2004-2005 for the department of education to:
(1) Purchase more new and recently published textbooks in order to update the textbooks periodically; and
(2) Provide a sufficient number of textbooks for every student enrolled in the public schools;
provided that a particular school's textbooks shall be aligned with the curriculum of that school's complex as a whole.
The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.
SECTION 2. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2004.
