A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to veterans' rights and benefits.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Section 363-12, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (b) to read as follows:

"(b) The maximum amount that may be disbursed on behalf of a deceased World War II Filipino-American veteran under this section is [$2,500.] $3,000."

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $1 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2004-2005 for the purposes of this Act.

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of defense for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3. This Act does not affect rights and duties that matured, and proceedings that were begun, before its effective date.

SECTION 4. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 5. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2004.
