RELATING TO ADVOCACY FOR HUMAN SERVICES.

Provides legal assistance and funding for certain children with special needs, disabled children, and the elderly. (HB1272 HD2)

RELATING TO THE ELDER JUSTICE ACT.

Adopts the Elder Justice Act to increase penalties for abuse, neglect, or economic exploitation of dependent elders. (HB519 HD1)

RELATING TO ELDER ABUSE.

Requires the Department of Health to conduct criminal history record checks of operators and employees of skilled nursing facilities, intermediate care facilities, adult residential care homes, and assisted living facilities. Requires the Department of Human Services to conduct checks on service providers in adult care facilities serving frail, elderly, disabled, or dependent adults. (HB925 HD3)

DECISION MAKING TO FOLLOW, IF TIME PERMITS.

Persons wishing to testify should submit 30 3-hole punched copies of their testimony to the committee clerk, Room 226, State Capitol during regular business hours, or outside the Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Office, Room 015, State Capitol for all other times, 24 hours prior to the hearing. E-mail testimony may be submitted to [email protected]. Testimony must be written in the body of the e-mail, e-mail attachments will not be accepted. Testimony may also be faxed if less than 5 pages in length, to the Senate Sergeant-At-Arms Office at 586-6659 or 1-800-586-6659 (toll free for neighbor islands), at least 24 hours prior to the hearing. When faxing or sending e-mail, please indicate to whom the testimony is being submitted, the date and time of the hearing and the required number of copies needed for submittal.

If you require special assistance or auxiliary aids or services to participate in the public hearing process (i.e., sign language interpreter, wheelchair accessibility, or parking designated for the disabled) please contact the committee clerk 24 hours prior to the hearing so arrangements can be made.

Public Folder. A folder labeled "Public Folder" containing the measures and testimonies for the hearing will be available for shared use by members of the public.
