SENATE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

requesting the department of business, economic development, and tourism, in conjunction with the department of transportation, to develop a master plan for THE honolulu waterfront.

 

WHEREAS, the Honolulu waterfront is a special public asset that serves as the State's principal harbor and provides boundless opportunities for economic development, public enjoyment, and civil identity; and

WHEREAS, the uncoordinated, piece-meal development of the area will likely give rise to inefficiency in waterfront management and hinder business growth; and

WHEREAS, the waterfront master plan was last reviewed in 1989; and

WHEREAS, in order to make best use of these opportunities, a new master plan for the development of the waterfront must be formulated; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-First Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2002, the House of Representatives concurring, that the office of planning of the department of business, economic development, and tourism, in conjunction with the department of transportation, is directed to draft a master plan for the Honolulu waterfront; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that public hearings shall be held to help develop the plan; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the department of business, economic development, and tourism shall transmit a report regarding implementation of the master plan to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the convening of each Regular Session of the Legislature; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the director of business, economic development, and tourism and the director of transportation.
