Description:

Amends the definition of "enrollment", with respect to the school priority program, to require special students to be counted in accordance with the DOE's per pupil weighted formula, for the purposes of allotting moneys to the school districts.

A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to the financial structure of the department of education.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Section 302A-1201, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending the definition of "enrollment" to read:

""Enrollment" means the number of students registered in the regular public schools, with each regular student [and each special student] being counted as one[.], and each special student being counted in accordance with the department's per pupil weighted formula."

SECTION 2. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act, upon its approval, shall apply to school years beginning after June 30, 2001.
