TWENTY-FIRST LEGISLATURE, 2002

S.D. 2

STATE OF HAWAII

A BILL FOR AN ACT

Making an appropriation for marketing of hawaii products and services.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The attacks on the United States in September, 2001, have led to a slowdown in tourism, which in turn, has led to a loss of revenues and increased unemployment in Hawaii. The decline in the State's economy due to the drop in tourism underscores the need to diversify Hawaii's economy by creating a market for the broad variety of products and services originating or produced in the State.

The purpose of this Act is to appropriate funds for the marketing of Hawaii products and services.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2002-2003, for the marketing and promotion of Hawaii products and services.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of business, economic development, and tourism for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2002.
