A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO HUMAN SERVICES.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 346, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"346- Prescription drug coverage for uninsured. (a) The department shall establish a prescription drug coverage program that allows qualified persons to purchase prescription drugs at Medicaid rates. To qualify for this program, a person must be:

(1) Ineligible for Medicaid or QUEST coverage; and

(2) Unable to afford private health insurance.

(b) If federal moneys are not available for the prescription drug coverage program, the State shall assume the entire amount of the costs.

(c) The department shall adopt rules pursuant to chapter 91 to implement this section, including income eligibility standards."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
