REQUESTING THE planning department of the CITY AND COUNTY OF HONOLULU to EXPLORE THE POSSIBILITY OF CONSTRUCTING A 25-METER POOL AT THE SITE OF THE PRESENT LANAKILA BASKETBALL COURTS.
WHEREAS, the proposed Lanakila Swimming Pool is a 50-meter, nine-lane pool situated at the corner of Kuakini Street and Lanakila Avenue, adjacent to Lanakila Elementary School; and
WHEREAS, this project is part of a twenty-year-old master plan which is outdated and no longer consistent with the safety and health aspects of the current site; and
WHEREAS, a master plan contains construction projects which include the building of restrooms with showers, a pool equipment room, a maintenance room, a pool manager's office, and a solid tile wall between the pool and the school; and
WHEREAS, construction of the solid tile wall is for the abatement of noise which may occur with the use of the pool during school hours; and
WHEREAS, this wall might disrupt needed air circulation for the school classrooms and hinder mountain breezes which cool the school campus; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2002, that the Planning Department of the City and County of Honolulu is requested to explore the possibility of constructing a 25-meter pool on the site of the present Lanakila basketball court; and
