A BILL FOR AN ACT

making appropriations for the sex offender treatment program.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The legislature finds that there is a shortfall of funding for sex offender treatment for persons under the supervision of the Hawaii paroling authority. Often parolees are unable to pay for these treatments at their own expense.

The purpose of this Act is to make appropriations to provide continued and sustained sex offender treatment and relapse prevention services to the current and projected sex offender parolee population.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $50,000 or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2002-2003 for sex offender treatment and relapse prevention services for sex offender parolees.

The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of public safety for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2002.
