A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to traffic violations.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Section 291-2, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended to read as follows:

"§291-2 Reckless driving of vehicle or riding of animals; penalty. (a) Whoever operates any vehicle or rides any animal recklessly in disregard of the safety of persons or property is guilty of reckless driving of vehicle or reckless riding of an animal, as appropriate, and shall be fined not more than $1,000 or imprisoned not more than thirty days, or both.

(b) Reckless driving of a vehicle as used in this section shall also mean in a manner or at a speed which endangers or is likely to endanger the safety of persons or property by committing any two or more traffic infractions in a continuous series of acts to another vehicle or in concert with another vehicle including but not limited to unsafe changing of lanes, following too closely, failing to signal while changing lanes, failing to yield, speeding, driving too fast for road conditions, and driving on the shoulder of the roadway."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
