RE: S.B. No. 306

S.D. 1

Honorable Robert Bunda

President of the Senate

Twenty-First State Legislature

Regular Session of 2001

State of Hawaii

Sir:

Your Committee on Economic Development and Technology, to which was recommitted S.B. No. 306, S.D. 1, entitled:

"A BILL FOR AN ACT RELATING TO COMMUNITY BASED ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT,"

begs leave to report as follows:

The purpose of this measure is to appropriate funds to further support the community-based economic development loan and grant program (CBED).

Your Committee received testimony in favor of this measure from the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism.

Your Committee finds that CBED is an important program that has assisted in the development of community-based ventures and micro-businesses. Further support of these types of enterprises benefits the State's economy by creating new jobs and improving communities.

As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your Committee on Economic Development and Technology that is attached to this report, your Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of S.B. No. 306, S.D. 1, and recommends that it be referred to the Committee on Ways and Means.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the members of the Committee on Economic Development and Technology,
