HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

H.C.R. NO.

46

TWENTY-FIRST LEGISLATURE, 2001

STATE OF HAWAII

HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF ACCOUNTING AND GENERAL SERVICES TO CONSULT WITH THE SHERIFF’S DIVISION OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY IN THE PLANNING AND DESIGN OF NEW PUBLIC FACILITIES.

WHEREAS, the security and safety of the public and government workers in public facilities are ever present concerns; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Accounting and General Services is the state agency responsible for planning and designing new public facilities throughout the state; and

WHEREAS, in addition to new facilities being planned throughout the state, there is a particularly accelerated growth of such facilities in Oahu’s "second city" at Kapolei; and

WHEREAS, the early input of agencies responsible for the provision of security in new facilities can conceivably result in design features conducive to future surveillance and safety factors; and

WHEREAS, the early review of new facility plans will allow responsible security agencies an opportunity to budget for required additional equipment and staff; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2001, the Senate concurring, that the Department of Accounting and General Services is requested to consult with the Sheriff's Division of the Department of Public Safety to review preliminary plans and designs for proposed new public buildings in order to offer comments pursuant to security and safety of the proposed buildings; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Comptroller and the Director of Public Safety.
