A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to technology service and training.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. (a) There is established within the department of education a technology service and training program designed to enable high school students to receive industry-recognized certification in one or more of the following areas:

(1) Network provider (for example, Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer);

(2) Hardware technician (for example, A Plus); and

(3) End-user/software support provider (for example, Microsoft Office User Specialist).

(b) Certified students may be employed for credit by a school, a school complex, or a departmental school district to provide support to department of education personnel, including technology coordinators.

(c) The department of education shall submit a formative evaluation of the technology service and training program not less than twenty days prior to the regular sessions of 2002 and 2003, and a summative evaluation of the same not less than twenty days prior to the regular session of 2004.

SECTION 2. There is appropriated out of the general revenues of the State of Hawaii the sum of $ , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2001-2002, and the sum of $ , or so much thereof as may be necessary for fiscal year 2002-2003, for the establishment of a technology service and training program.

SECTION 3. The sums appropriated shall be expended by the department of education for the purposes of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2001.
