A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to education.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 302A, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§302A-   Dental examination required. No child shall be admitted to any school for the first time in the State unless the child presents to the appropriate school official a certification from a dentist, licensed under chapter 448, stating that the child has undergone a dental examination. The dental examination shall be performed within six months prior to the date of entry into school; provided that the child may enter school upon written representation by the parent or guardian of the child that the child is in the process of seeking or undergoing a dental examination; provided further that in no event shall the certification be presented to the school later than three months after the child first entered the school. The dental examination shall be for the sole purpose of assessment or diagnosis."

SECTION 2. No child shall be denied entry into school by reason of this Act until after October 1, 2001.

SECTION 3. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2001.
