Sir:

     Your Committee on Health, to which was referred H.B. No.
1149 entitled: 

     "A BILL FOR AN ACT MAKING AN EMERGENCY APPROPRIATION FOR THE
     HAWAII HEALTH SYSTEMS CORPORATION,"

begs leave to report as follows:

     The purpose of this bill is to provide an emergency
appropriation to ensure the systems and the equipment of the
Hawaii Health Systems Corporation are Year 2000 compliant, as
well as to settle various workers' compensation costs.  

     The Hawaii Health Systems Corporation and the Hawaii
Government Employees Association submitted testimony in strong
support of the measure. 

     As affirmed by the record of votes of the members of your
Committee on Health that is attached to this report, your
Committee is in accord with the intent and purpose of H.B. No.
1149 and recommends that it pass Second Reading and be referred
