                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT

RELATING TO POLITICAL ACTIVITIES AT WASHINGTON PLACE. 


BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  State time, equipment, supplies, premises and
 
 2 personnel are prohibited for campaign activities or campaign
 
 3 purposes in state office buildings, but political activities in
 
 4 the governor's mansion is permissible.  This political use is
 
 5 inconsistent with the purpose and intent of the ethics code.  The
 
 6 purpose of this Act is to prohibit the use of the state-owned
 
 7 governor's mansion for campaign activities or campaign purposes.
 
 8      SECTION 2.  Chapter 84, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended
 
 9 by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to
 
10 read as follows:
 
11      "�84-    Use of the governor's mansion for campaign
 
12 purposes.  The governor's mansion shall not be used for campaign
 
13 purposes.  For purposes of this section, campaign purposes shall
 
14 include 1) selling, purchasing, or distributing campaign
 
15 fundraiser tickets; 2) holding fundraisers, conducting political
 
16 meetings; 3) distributing campaign literature; 4) soliciting
 
17 campaign assistance or support; or 5) producing campaign
 
18 literature or materials."
 
19      SECTION 3.  New statutory material is underscored.
 
20      SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
