                    SENATE  CONCURRENT
                        RESOLUTION

  REQUESTING THE INSURANCE COMMISSIONER TO STUDY THE INSURANCE
    EQUALITY LAWS OF THE STATE OF WASHINGTON.



 1        WHEREAS, insurance reforms in other states may serve as
 2   inspiration for reforms in Hawaii; and
 3   
 4        WHEREAS, innovative laws such as Washington's insurance
 5   equality laws are presently absent from the State's insurance
 6   code; and
 7   
 8        WHEREAS, the enactment of such laws into the State's
 9   insurance code may serve to improve the fairness of the
10   insurance system for all interested parties; and
11   
12        WHEREAS, the Insurance Commissioner is entrusted with the
13   administration of the insurance laws of this State; now,
14   therefore,
15   
16        BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twentieth Legislature
17   of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 1999, the House of
18   Representatives concurring, that the Insurance Commissioner is
19   respectfully requested to study the insurance equality laws of
20   the State of Washington to evaluate the impact of that law on
21   the health of the people of Washington; and
22   
23        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Insurance Commissioner is
24   requested to report findings and recommendations to the
25   Legislature twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular
26   Session of 2000 with regard to whether the Washington law
27   should be adopted in Hawaii; and
28   
29        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this
30   Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Insurance
31   Commissioner.
