                     HOUSE  RESOLUTION

  CONGRATULATING 1999 HAWAII JUNIOR MISS, JOLENE MUNENO, FIRST
    RUNNER-UP KYLEEN LEE, AND SECOND RUNNER-UP TRACY PICKELS
    IN THE 1999 HAWAII JUNIOR MISS PROGRAM.



 1        WHEREAS, the Hawaii Junior Miss Program, first started in
 2   Hawaii in 1959, is part of a nationwide scholarship program to
 3   recognize, reward, and encourage excellence and is supported
 4   locally by corporate sponsors, local companies, media
 5   personalities, and other individuals that contribute
 6   scholarship awards, cash donations, and prizes; and
 7   
 8        WHEREAS, Jolene Satsuki Muneno, after winning the
 9   preliminary night Creative and Performing Arts phase with her
10   clarinet solo, was named the 1999 Hawaii Junior Miss at the
11   fortieth annual scholarship program, held on January 23 and 24,
12   1999, and was awarded a $4,000 cash scholarship from First
13   Hawaiian Bank and $1,000 from Hawaii's Junior Miss, Inc.; and
14   
15        WHEREAS, Ms. Muneno will represent Hawaii at the America's
16   Junior Miss program in Mobile, Alabama this summer, where she
17   will compete with forty-nine other high school seniors; and
18   
19        WHEREAS, as a senior at Iolani High School where she
20   maintains a 4.2 grade point average, Jolene Satsuki Muneno is
21   currently a member of the Hawaii Youth Symphony I and Cum Laude
22   Society, and her commitment to excellence serves as an
23   inspiration to young people and has bestowed pride on her
24   family, community, and the State of Hawaii; and
25   
26        WHEREAS, first runner-up in the Hawaii Junior Miss
27   Program, Kyleen Lee, and second runner-up, Tracy Pickels, also
28   serve as role models who bring equal pride and joy to the State
29   of Hawaii; now, therefore,
30   
31        BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
32   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
33   of 1999, that this body hereby congratulates Jolene Satsuki
34   Muneno upon being selected as the 1999 Hawaii Junior Miss and
35   offers its support and encouragement in the forthcoming
36   America's Junior Miss contest in Mobile, Alabama, and also

 1   congratulates Kyleen Lee, first-runner up, and Tracy Pickels,
 2   second runner-up, and extends to them its sincere wishes for
 3   continued success in all future endeavors.
