                     HOUSE  CONCURRENT
                        RESOLUTION

  REQUESTING REFINERS OF PETROLEUM PRODUCTS AND THEIR
    STOCKHOLDERS TO REDUCE GASOLINE PRICES TO AID IN THE
    REVITALIZATION AND STIMULATION OF HAWAII'S ECONOMY AND AS
    A GOODWILL GESTURE OF ALOHA TO THEIR CUSTOMERS.


 1        WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii utilizes only three-tenths of
 2   one per cent of the total gasoline consumed in the entire
 3   United States; and
 4   
 5        WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii is approximately ninety-nine
 6   per cent dependent on imported petroleum to meet its energy
 7   requirements; and
 8   
 9        WHEREAS, refiners of gasoline in Hawaii produce
10   approximately ninety per cent of all gasoline sold in Hawaii
11   and have a long history of serving the needs of the people of
12   the State of Hawaii; and
13   
14        WHEREAS, many of Hawaii's residents live in outlying
15   communities or rural areas and drive long distances daily to
16   commute to work; and
17   
18        WHEREAS, many of Hawaii's neighbor island residents do not
19   have the alternative of a public transportation system; and
20   
21        WHEREAS, lower gasoline prices will directly benefit state
22   residents and contribute directly toward much needed economic
23   revitalization and stimulation; now, therefore,
24   
25        BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the
26   Twentieth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session
27   of 2000, the Senate concurring, that refiners of petroleum
28   products and their stockholders, as good corporate citizens of
29   the State of Hawaii, are requested to reduce gasoline prices to
30   aid in the revitalization and stimulation of Hawaii economy and
31   as a goodwill gesture of aloha to their customers; and

 1        BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this
 2   Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to all refiners located in
 3   the State of Hawaii.
