Subscribe to an RSS Feed

This lesson demonstrates subscribing to an RSS Feed using Google Reader. There are several RSS Readers available, that can be found using an internet search for "RSS Reader".

  1. Copy the feed address.
    Using your browser, click on the orange RSS icon RSS on the webpage. Don't let a bunch of XML code scare you! Highlight and copy the URL, or the web address, from your browser's address bar.

    On this website, go to Bill Status and Documents, and enter your bill number(s) in the first box. Make sure the "Show Status" box is checked, and click on "Go". Then click on the bill status link. You can click the orange RSS icon RSS next to the bill number to view the feed. Highlight and copy the URL, or the web address, from your browser's address bar.

  2. Log in to Google Reader.
    Go to http://www.google.com/reader, and log in to your Google account. If you do not have a Google account, you can create one for free using your exisiting e-mail address. Click on "Create an account now" underneath the Google account log in box, and follow the on-screen instructions.

  3. Add your subscription to Google Reader.
    Click on "Add subscription" on the left side. Paste the URL of the RSS feed into the box, then click on "Add". That's it! For more information on Google Reader, please click on the Help link in the upper right.
