Senator 
David Y. Ige 
Senator David Ige currently serves as Majority Technology Leader. Elected in 2009 after serving as technology liaison for the Senate's paperless initiative, Senator Ige has led numerous other technology initiatives in the Senate. In addition to serving as Majority Technology Leader, Ige chairs the Senate Committee on Health.

Senator Ige currently represents Hawaii's 16th Senatorial District and has served in the Hawaii State Senate since 1994. Ige represented Pearl City and Aiea communities as a State Representative from 1986 to 1994. Over the years, Ige has focused his time and energy on issues such as education, technology, economic development, public access, and legislative reform.

Born on January 15, 1957, Senator Ige and his wife, Dawn, have three children: Lauren, Amy, and Matthew. Senator Ige is a graduate from Pearl City High School and received a B.S. from the University of Hawaii in Electrical Engineering in 1979. He continued his education, receiving an MBA in Decision Sciences in 1985.

A Record to Build On
Over the years, Senator Ige has compiled an impressive record of achievement based on a single goal - to improve our quality of life.

His accomplishments did not go unnoticed. In 1992, political columnist Dan Boylan named him one of the best Representatives.

Ige has focused his time and energy on issues such as education, technology, economic development, public access, and legislative reform.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Technology and Economic Development
As an engineer, Senator Ige knows and understands the role technology has in our lives and in the State's information and telecommunications policies.

Ige co-authored the Hawaii Telecommunications and Information Industries Act which established the State information network and created the Hawaii Information Network Corporation. He has also been at the center of Hawaii's efforts to diversify its economy.

He was responsible for establishing seed capital and venture capital programs, software development initiatives, and technology transfer programs.
