Senator 
Colleen Hanabusa 
Senator Colleen Hanabusa is President of the Hawai`i State Senate and is the first woman to lead either house in the Hawai`i legislature. Senator Hanabusa has dedicated herself to public service as a labor attorney, community organizer, and leader in the Hawai`i State Senate.

Currently finishing her third term, Senator Hanabusa has represented Hawai`i's 21st Senatorial District since 1998. Over the years, Hanabusa has served as: Chair of the Senate Committee on Water, Land, and Hawaiian Affairs; Vice-President of Senate; Vice-Chair of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means; Chair of the Committee on Judiciary and Hawaiian Affairs; Majority Leader; and now as Senate President.

Born on May 4, 1951, Senator Hanabusa graduated from St. Andrew's Priory in 1969 and received a B.A. from the University of Hawai`i in Economics & Sociology in 1973. She continued her education, receiving an M.A. in Sociology in 1975 and in 1977, received her J.D. from the William S. Richardson School of Law.
