HOUSE CONCURRENT

RESOLUTION

 

 

REQUESTING THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII COLLEGE OF EDUCATION TO UNDERTAKE EFFORTS TO INTEGRATE ADDITIONAL INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS AND GLOBAL EDUCATION COURSEWORK INTO ITS CURRICULUM.

 

 

 


     WHEREAS, the secular trend toward increasing globalization is an important fact of modern life; and

 

     WHEREAS, evidence of globalization, a trend facilitated by the advent of the Internet, advancements in air travel, and improvements in communication technologies, can be found in virtually every facet of our society today, including the worldwide economic interdependence as a result of international trade and commerce, as well as cultural, social, and educational exchange between different nations; and

 

     WHEREAS, the increasingly global nature of our relationships and activities obligates our educational institutions to prepare students with curriculums that contain a global perspective; and

 

     WHEREAS, students familiar with international affairs and global issues will possess a better understanding of how such trends impact their particular areas of focus; and

 

     WHEREAS, students who have been exposed to international and global issues and concerns will be more skilled in dealing with other cultures and work environments when they graduate and enter the workforce; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fifth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2009, the Senate concurring, that the University of Hawaii (UH) College of Education is requested to undertake efforts to integrate additional international affairs and global education coursework into its curriculum, including a foreign language requirement; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the UH College of Education is requested to report findings and recommendations to the Legislature, no later than 20 days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2010; and

 

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Concurrent Resolution be transmitted to the Dean of the UH College of Education.
