Description:

Modifies the composition of the contractors license board to require that at least 3 members of the board to be appointed from a list of nominees submitted by the speaker of the house of representatives and at least 3 from a list submitted by the president of the senate.

A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

 

RELATING TO CONTRACTORS.

 

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 


     SECTION 1.  Section 444-3, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (b) to read as follows:

     "(b)  Of the board members:

     (1)  Ten shall be contractors who have been actively engaged in the contracting business for a period of not less than five years preceding the date of their appointment;

     (2)  Five shall be general engineering or building contractors, five shall be specialty contractors, and three shall be noncontractors[.];

     (3)  At least three shall be appointed from a list of nominees submitted by the speaker of the house of representatives; and

     (4)  At least three shall be appointed from a list of nominees submitted by the president of the senate.

No member shall receive any compensation for the member's services, but each shall be reimbursed for necessary traveling expenses incurred in the performance of duties."

     SECTION 2.  This Act shall apply to the contractors license board upon its next vacancy.

     SECTION 3.  Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken.  New statutory material is underscored.

     SECTION 4.  This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2009.
