HOUSE RESOLUTION
Recognizing Admiral William J. and Mary FALLON for their outstanding dedication, commitment, and service to Hawaii's military community and to the people of Hawaii.
WHEREAS, the safety and security of our State and our nation depends on the hard work and sacrifice of the brave men and women who risk their lives in defense of our country; and
WHEREAS, ADMIRAL WILLIAM J. FALLON and MARY FALLON are two individuals who have contributed greatly to the community in Hawaii and have served as ambassadors to the islands during the admiral's tour as Commander of the United States Pacific Command; and
WHEREAS, ADMIRAL WILLIAM J. FALLON's esteemed career began as a naval flight officer in 1967, after the completion of flight training; and
WHEREAS, ADMIRAL WILLIAM J. FALLON served with attack squadrons and carrier air wings for twenty-four years, including a combat deployment to Vietnam and has logged more than 1,300 carrier landings and 4,800 flight hours in tactical aircraft; and
WHEREAS, ADMIRAL WILLIAM J. FALLON commanded attack squadrons and carrier air wings during Operation Desert Storm in 1991, and also led a battle group and a battle force during Operation Deliberate Force in Bosnia; and
WHEREAS, as a flag officer, ADMIRAL WILLIAM J. FALLON served as Assistant Chief of Staff, Plans and Policy for the Supreme Allied Commander, Atlantic; and
WHEREAS, ADMIRAL WILLIAM J. FALLON's distinguished career also included stints as the 31st Vice Chief of Naval Operations and as Commander of the United States Fleet Forces Command and United States Atlantic Fleet; and
WHEREAS, ADMIRAL WILLIAM J.FALLON, throughout the course of his career, has earned numerous awards for bravery and exemplary service, including the Defense Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, and the Bronze Star; and
WHEREAS, because of his illustrious naval career, strategic ability, intelligence, and diplomacy ADMIRAL WILLIAM J. FALLON has been selected as Commander of the Central Command to lead troops in Iraq and Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS, ADMIRAL WILLIAM J. FALLON has performed his duties with wisdom and vision and focused on economic and social issues, such as reviving communications with China's military and training local military in the Philippines to combat insurgents; and
WHEREAS, MARY FALLON believes that issues relating to quality of life are of the utmost importance, especially those involving housing and education, which heavily impacts military members and their families; and
WHEREAS, ADMIRAL WILLIAM J. FALLON and MARY FALLON have worked diligently to promote an open communication and a strong relationship between the military community, the State government, and the civilian community in Hawaii; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-fourth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2007, that this body hereby recognizes ADMIRAL WILLIAM J. and MARY FALLON for their outstanding dedication, commitment, and service to their country and to the people of Hawaii, and extends to them its warmest aloha and sincere best wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors.
