SENATE RESOLUTION

 

requesting the adoptION OF the economic plans of each county to stabilize and stimulate the state's economy.

 

WHEREAS, each county in Hawaii may have its own unique economic priorities and direction; and

WHEREAS, each county in the State has its own economic development plan that individually aims to boost the economy of each county, including the tourism sector; and

WHEREAS, the Overall Economic Development Strategy provides a program of economic development for the county of Hawaii to program projects for technical assistance, public works, and economic adjustment on the Big Island; and

WHEREAS, the plan of the Honolulu Office of Economic Development is to enhance, diversify, and expand the economic base of the City and County of Honolulu, to help businesses start up, grow, and thrive; and

WHEREAS, the Kauai County economic development plan provides for County partnership with the community, to create economic opportunities towards the development of a healthy, stable, and balanced economy for the residents of the County of Kauai; and

WHEREAS, the Maui County economic development plan provides for County partnership with the community, other government agencies and businesses to strengthen and diversify the economy of the County by supporting existing businesses and industries, and by assisting in the attraction, development, and expansion of new and fledgling businesses and industries; and

WHEREAS, the four county plans together can support and strengthen the economy of the entire State; now, therefore,

BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Twenty-First Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2002, that the Legislature and State administration are requested to adopt the economic plans of each county as a means to stabilize and stimulate the economy of the entire State; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature and State administration include plans, programs, and projects to boost the tourism industry in each county as part of each county's economic development plan; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the President of the Senate, the Mayors of the counties of Hawaii, Honolulu, Kauai, and Maui.
