A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO REGISTRATION OF DIVORCES AND ANNULMENTS.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Section 338-29, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended to read as follows:

"§338-29 Registration of divorces and annulments. Before any decree of divorce or annulment of marriage is signed, the person applying therefor shall prepare, through the attorney representing that person, a certificate[, on a form to be approved by the department of health, and file it with the clerk of the court.] in such form and manner as prescribed by the department of health. The certificate shall contain such items of information as are [recommended by the National Center of Health Statistics and] approved by the department. Within ten days after the final decree of divorce or annulment of marriage is granted, the clerk of the court shall [endorse] enter upon the certificate, in such form and manner as prescribed by the department of health, the date of the decree and [shall forward the certificate to the department.] any change of names included in the decree pursuant to section 574-5(2)(B)."

SECTION 2. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
