A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to motor vehicle inspections.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Section 286-26, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsections (a) and (b) to read as follows:

"(a) The following vehicles shall be certified as provided in subsection (e) once every [six months:] year:

[(1) Ambulances;

(2)] (1) Trucks, truck-tractors, semitrailers, and pole trailers having a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds;

[(3)] (2) Buses[;] operated by a person or entity that is subject to chapter 271;

[(4)] (3) Rental or U-drive motor vehicles [one year] two years of age or older; and

[(5)] (4) Taxicabs.

Ambulances and buses operated by persons or entities not subject to chapter 271 shall be certified as provided in subsection (e) once every six months.

(b) All other vehicles, including motorcycles, trailers, semitrailers, and pole trailers having a gross vehicle weight rating of 10,000 pounds or less, rental and U-drive motor vehicles under two years of age, and antique motor vehicles as defined in section 249-1, except those in subsections (c) and (d), shall be certified as provided in subsection (e) every [twelve months.] two years."

SECTION 2. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
