A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to ANIMAL CRUELTY.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Chapter 471, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by adding a new section to be appropriately designated and to read as follows:

"§471-   Reporting of animal cruelty; immunity. A veterinarian shall, and any other person may, report known or suspected cases of animal cruelty to an agent of any society which is formed or incorporated for the prevention of cruelty to animals for action under section 711-1110 or to a law enforcement officer.

A veterinarian and any other person reporting shall be immune from civil liability with respect to a report made under this section in good faith."

SECTION 2. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
