A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

RELATING TO THE ALA WAI WATERSHED.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. The director of finance is authorized to issue general obligation bonds in the sum of $1,000,000, or so much thereof as may be necessary, and the same sum, or so much thereof as may be necessary, is appropriated for fiscal year 2001-2002 for the development of a non-chemical, microorganism-based water treatment demonstration project for the Ala Wai canal at the confluence of the Manoa-Palolo streams.

SECTION 2. Any unexpended or unencumbered balance of the appropriation made by this Act as of the close of business on June 30, 2002, shall not lapse on that date but shall lapse on June 30, 2003.

SECTION 3. The sum appropriated shall be expended by the department of land and natural resources for the purpose of this Act.

SECTION 4. This Act shall take effect on July 1, 2001.
