HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

HONORING AND COMMENDING MR. MELVIN M. NAKAMURA FOR HIS EXTRAORDINARY CONTRIBUTIONS AND EXTENDING BEST WISHES IN HIS CANDIDACY FOR THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF LIONS CLUBS INTERNATIONAl.

 

 

WHEREAS, the quality of life in our state is enriched by the commitment of dedicated individuals who share their time, energy, and talents to meet the needs of their community;

WHEREAS, the motto of the International Association of Lions Clubs is "We Serve," which underscores the clubs' commitment to improve the quality of life in their communities and to promote peace and understanding throughout the world;

WHEREAS, Mr. Nakamura has generously given numerous hours of service to our state and to his community during his twenty-four years as a member, serving in every capacity on the Waioli Lions Club and at the District level as Past District Governor of Hawaii;

WHEREAS, on November 3, 2001, during a special convention of District 50 Lions Hawaii he was endorsed for the high office of director, Lions Clubs International, the election to be held in Osaka, Japan, this July during an international convention;

WHEREAS, as the Host Committee Chairman for the 2000 Lions Club International Convention and through his skills in planning and coordination over a two-year effort, the highly successful Honolulu Convention attracted over 30,000 members, spouses, and guests;

WHEREAS, this individual is also involved in other organizations dedicated to serving the people of Hawaii such as the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce and the Friends of Hawaii's Public Housing; and

BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-first Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2002, that this body congratulates Mr. Melvin M. Nakamura upon his endorsement as candidate for the high office of Lions Club International Director, and honors and commends him for his long, outstanding, and dedicated service to the people of Hawaii.
