A BILL FOR AN ACT

 

relating to nurses.

 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

SECTION 1. Section 457-8.6, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended to read as follows:

"[[]§457-8.6[]] Prescriptive authority for advanced practice registered nurses. The [department of commerce and consumer affairs] board shall grant prescriptive authority to qualified advanced practice registered nurses; provided that[, the]:

(1) The board of medical examiners shall designate the [applicable] requirements for advanced nursing practice, prescriptive authority, and applicable formularies [provided further that the] on an annual basis;

(2) The board of medical examiners shall submit an [interim] annual report on [the establishment of the formularies by December 31, 1994.] any updated requirements and formularies to the legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of each regular session;

(3) An advisory committee of representatives, selected by the director of commerce and consumer affairs, of the different advanced practice registered nursing specialties, physicians who work with advanced practice registered nurses, pharmacists, and representatives of other appropriate health-related areas selected by the director of commerce and consumer affairs, shall be convened by the director of commerce and consumer affairs to advise the board regarding formulary matters."

SECTION 2. Statutory material to be repealed is bracketed and stricken. New statutory material is underscored.

SECTION 3. This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
