                   A  BILL  FOR  AN  ACT
RELATING TO LIVING AND DYING WITH DIGNITY.



BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF HAWAII:

 1      SECTION 1.  Section 321-1.6, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is
 
 2 amended to read as follows:
 
 3      "[[]�321-1.6[]]  Additional duties of the director.  (a) Any
 
 4 health center previously designated as a Federally Qualified
 
 5 Health Center (FQHC), FQHC look alike, or Rural Health Clinic
 
 6 (RHC) shall have comparable designation as a Hawaii Qualified
 
 7 Health Center and shall also be known as Essential Community
 
 8 Providers.  The director of health, with the concurrence of the
 
 9 director of human services, shall have the authority to designate
 
10 other Hawaii health centers not yet federally designated but
 
11 deserving of support to meet short term public health needs based
 
12 on the department of health's criteria, as Hawaii Qualified
 
13 Health Centers.
 
14      (b)  The director of health shall be responsible for
 
15 monitoring the issues raised by the governor's blue ribbon panel
 
16 on living and dying with dignity and shall convene a task force
 
17 as necessary to discuss and recommend public policy."
 
18      SECTION 2.  New statutory material is underscored.
 
19      SECTION 3.  This Act shall take effect upon its approval.
