- September 3, 2010. Honor and Remember - A movement to create, establish, and promote a nationally recognized flag that flies continuously as a visible reminder to all Americans of those who lost their lives while in military service has come to Hawaii. (Article)
- A series of annual surveys taken by Representative K. Mark Takai since 2006 have attempted to quantify lawmaker-soldiers. Read more about this on the website of the National Conference of State Legislatures (Article).
- March 25, 2008. Hawaii Medal of Honor - The Legislature convened a special joint session to honor those courageous service members with Hawaii ties who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country. Family members of the fallen service members received the Hawaii Medal of Honor on behalf of their loved ones.

- April 16, 2007. Representative Takai, with the assistance of his hard-working staff, has dedicated his time and energy throughout this session in preparing for the official 2007 Hawaii Medal of Honor presentation ceremony. As the primary coordinator of this event, Representative Takai has spent months tirelessly working to locate and work with the families and loved ones of Medal recipients.
"We are truly grateful for the sacrifices that these families have made,” Takai said. “This medal is just a small token of our utmost appreciation. It tells these families that we also grieve for their loss."
