Department of Planning and Permitting -- City and County of Honolulu

The official site of DPP for the City and County of Honolulu, which provides services and information on building permits, development projects, and planning activities for the city and county. The site provides links to forms and applications, planning information, and access to the Honolulu Internet Permit System. It also includes the Honolulu Land Information System, which is an enterprise-wide Geographic Information System (GIS) with land use, permit, tax, infrastructure, and environmental data.

 

Office of Housing and Community Development -- County of Hawaii

The official website of OHCD for Hawaii County, which is responsible for the planning, administration, and operation of all of Hawaii County's housing programs, including Section 8 rental assistance for qualified families. The site contains department contact information as well as links to information for renters and homeowners.

 

Department of Housing and Human Concerns -- County of Maui

The official site of the county's Department of Housing and Human Concerns, which supports a wide range of community needs, including expanding affordable housing opportunities for low and moderate income families, and supporting the development of special needs housing. The Housing Division also maintains a separate site with contact and other relevant information.

 

Housing Agency -- County of Kauai

The official site of the County's Housing Agency. The site provides links to housing information and applications to various housing programs, as well as information on renter's assistance.

Housing -- Federal Links

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development

HUD's mission is to increase home ownership, support community development, and increase access to affordable housing free from discrimination. This is accomplished in part by maintaining partnerships, particularly with faith-based and community organizations, to leverage resources and improve HUD's ability to be effective on the community level. The site offers links organized by task, a blog, news headlines, and access to various federal datasets.

 

Federal Housing Finance Agency

This website was developed as a portal to information about this new agency, which was formed by a legislative merger of the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight, the Federal Housing Finance Board, and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development government-sponsored enterprise mission team. FHFA regulates Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the twelve Federal Home Loan Banks. The website has several tools available for homeowners and those seeking to purchase a home including mortgage rates, a house price calculator, and house price index. There are also links to an FHFA Privacy Act Reference Guide, laws and regulations, and relevant research and analysis.

 

Making Home Affordable Program

The Making Home Affordable Program was developed by the Obama Administration to provide opportunities for homeowners to modify or refinance their mortgages to make them more affordable. It also includes the Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternatives Program for homeowners who are interested in a short sale or deed-in-lieu of foreclosure. The website has, among other things, a loan look-up feature as well as severeal resources for borrowers.

Housing -- Research

National Association of State Legislatures

NCSL is a bipartisan organization that provides several services, including research and technical assistance, for policymakers, to create a forum for the exchange of ideas on state issues. The website has various housing-related information including bill summaries, reports, articles, and newsletters.

 

Homelessness Resource Center

The Homelessness Resource Center is a self-described community of providers, consumers, policymakers, researchers, and public agencies at the federal, state, and local levels with a mission of seeking to improve the lives of people affected by homelessness who have mental health conditions, substance use issues, and histories of trauma. The website has a wealth of information categorized by subject in a virtual library, to include causes of homelessness, advocacy and policy, and research and evaluation.

 

2007 National Symposium on Homelessness Research

This site houses current research regarding all aspects of homelessness research given at the 2007 National Symposium. Each paper is available as a pdf document with titles that range from "Housing Models" and "Rural Homelessness," to "Incarceration and Homelessness" and "Historical and Contextual Influences on the U.S. Response to Contemporary Homelessness."
